Cigna Medicare Supplement Plan N

Medicare Supplement Plan N is the best alternative to Medigap plans G or F. Plan N offers the most coverage at the best price.

What Is Medicare Plan N?

The older you grow, the more your health becomes a priority. Not just because it should, but because human health generally deteriorates as we grow older. Original Medicare Parts A and B help to cover some of your medical costs. However, there are expenses left for you to pay out of pocket.

To help get more comprehensive coverage, a lot of people decide to get a Medicare Advantage, Medicare Supplement, or a Prescription Plan.

There are up to 12 supplement plans, all standardized across the United States, and lettered A-N. The three most popular plans being Medigap Plan F, G, and N. Plan F offers the most benefits, followed closely by Plan G and N.

Plan N is, however, the most affordable of the three. It offers just about as much coverage as the others except few benefits.

Why Medicare Plan N?

Medicare Supplement Plan N, also known as Medigap Plan N, started in 2010. The primary aim was to fill in the expense gaps that Original Medicare Parts A and B leaves you to pay out-of-pocket. In addition to this, Plan N allows you to get all the essential benefits of a Medigap plan without having to break the bank. The prices are affordable, given the list of advantages you get.

Medigap Plan N benefits include:

  • Part A coinsurance and hospital costs
  • Part B coinsurance and co-payment
  • The first 3 pints of blood
  • Part A hospice care coinsurance or copayment up to 365 days after your insurance expires
  • Skilled nursing facility coinsurance (up to 100 days)
  • Part A deductible
  • Preventive care
  • Foreign travel emergency (up to Plan limits)

Medicare Supplement Plan N does not cover Part B deductible and excess charges. You also have to make a $20 co-payment for each doctor’s visit and a $50 co-payment for each emergency room visit. These are the only differences between Plans N and F or G.

Cigna Medicare Supplement Plan N

Also, you can’t enroll for a Medigap plan and a Medicare Advantage plan at the same time.

How to Enroll In Medicare Supplement Plan N

You become eligible to sign up for the program upon retirement at age 65, or when you sign up for Medicare Part B. The immediate six-month period following this is an open enrolment period for you. You can enroll during this period, even if you have pre-existing conditions.

Although you can also apply outside of your open enrolment period, we suggest that you enroll during this period. Registering outside the open enrolment period may attract additional charges and underwriting. The insurance company may even decide you are not eligible for the plan.
